Just came back from a focus group session as an observer. Am a first-timer to play such a role. Hey I din know that the mirror in the discussion room is actually a "see thru window" for the bunch of "observers" to yes, observe the focus group participants. Was years back when I participated in focus group. Food provided, decent incentives awarded, interesting discussion. Last time was canvassing funds for hall events, this time as an observer literally laughing behind people's backs.
It was really a hilarious time for a group of 9 of us. Thought the room was quite cool. It's like watching a live sitcom haha. We engaged Mediacorp to conduct this focus group to garner feedback on our ads (press, radio, bus back, MRT). Oh btw, we bumped into Fann Wong in her Porche at the carpark. She looked like the Final Fantasy character with the heavy makeup, straight hair, big eyes. She was nice to smile back at us. *melt*
The comments given by the focus participants were very funny. Ok, I shant say too much here, supposed to be confidential. Much of the feedback is expected. We too have the same feel. But the words used to describe the ads, company positioning and branding were super duper heartlandish, somewhat straight to the point.
Much can be done to improve our company's image, product and marketing strategy man. On the whole, it was an eye-opening experience. It's different to be there listening first hand to the comments compared to reading off a report. So glad that I volunteered to go for this :)
